Short answer: anywhere from $0 to $10,000+, depending on who builds it. That range is useless on its own, so here's what actually determines where you land — and what matters more than the price tag.
The Three Real Options
DIY builders (Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy) — $15-40/month. Fine if you have hours to spend learning a page builder and don't mind a site that looks like every other DIY plumbing site. The real cost isn't the subscription, it's your time.
Freelancers — $300-1,500 one-time. Wide range in quality. Some are excellent, some disappear after taking a deposit. Ask to see live sites they've built for other trades before paying anything.
Agencies — $2,000-10,000+. You're paying for a team, an office, and often a salesperson between you and whoever actually builds the site. Not always worth it for a single-location plumbing business.
What a Plumbing Site Actually Needs
- Loads fast on a phone. Most searches for "plumber near me" happen on mobile, often from someone standing next to a leaking pipe. Every extra second of load time costs you calls.
- A phone number that's impossible to miss. Not buried in a footer — visible the second the page loads, tappable on mobile.
- Clear service area and services. People bounce fast if they can't tell in five seconds whether you cover their zip code and their specific problem.
- Real trust signals. Licensed/insured badges, years in business, and honest pricing beat stock photos of smiling plumbers every time.
The Hidden Costs Nobody Mentions
Hosting, a domain name, and ongoing maintenance add up regardless of who builds the site — budget $10-20/month for that no matter what. And if you're planning to run Google Ads to the site, that's a separate, ongoing budget from the site build itself — anyone who bundles "unlimited leads" into a flat website fee is either losing money or cutting corners on your ad spend.
What I Charge, and Why
I build plumbing company websites for a flat $499 — fast-loading, mobile-first, built around getting the phone to ring. No monthly fee for the site itself. If you also want me running Google Ads to bring in calls, that's a separate $750/month management fee, plus your own ad spend paid directly to Google — I don't mark it up.
